Located on the harbourfront in Kardamena, this recently opened traditional Greek style house & museum gives a real insight into typical Greek village everyday life throughout the last century. The interior of the museum is designed to reflect a Traditional Greek House, displaying an interesting collection of traditional handwoven textiles, kitchen utensils, various household items and agricultural tools. It is hard to believe that until a few decades ago the main source of income of the local people of the Kardamena was still coming from fishing and agriculture. Most households of the village were self-sufficient, growing their own vegetables, fruit and keeping animals for meat. Even today, 80% of villagers have a healthy way of life. Usually located on the outskirts of the village, where they keep their chickens, maybe even a goat or two and where they grow their own organic vegetables and fruits. Kardamena’s Traditional Greek House museum also displays various agricultural tools traditionally used by local villagers throughout the ages. These are genuine articles which have been preserved with great care and have been handed down through the generations. All of the items are displayed magnificently and provide a glimpse into village life of people during various historical periods here in Kos.
